Our History
Academy Model United Nations (AMUN) started at the Bergen County Academies during the 1997-1998 school year, when students in a 10th grade American History class started the first MUN activity after school to supplement their interest in international affairs. During the first meeting about 35 students participate in a mock UN session. The Academy Model UN team participated in its first conference at Yale University in February 1998, where it represented Algeria, Sri Lanka, Spain, and Greece. That same year, the Academy attended won its first “Best Delegation" award at George Washington University in Washington, DC.

In February 2000, students launched the first Academy Model United Nations conference. Delegates from all over the area came to participate. That year, the same students from the 10th grade history class planned the entire conference, wrote the topic papers, developed a website, and ran the committees, including the Security Council, Future Security Council, and Historical Security Council. Academy Model United Nations has grown tremendously over the past eight years, both as a conference and a school organization. We look forward to further growth and continuously improving conferences.
