JCC Soccer Wars: HondurasHonduras
Crisis Director: Ken Buonora Chair: Isabella Zelaya Alves Email: kenbuo23@bergen.org Topic: Soccer Wars Honduras and El Salvador are on the brink of a violent war. As more and more Salvadoran farmers illegally make their way into Honduras for more land, the new Honduran leader, Oswaldo Lopez Arellano is becoming furious that jobs and land are being stripped from the natural citizens of Honduras. After an overwhelming victory in the Honduran elections, with results in Lopez Arellano’s favor, the Salvadoran immigrants are forced back to their homeland. However, the Honduran-forced exodus is put to a halt when El Salvador cannot take the illegal Salvadoran farming immigrants back in since they are short on land. As both countries face a tumultuous future, they both advance to the 1970 World Cup to the point where they must compete in three, brutal games. Defeating the other does not just come with advancement on the international soccer stage, but country pride and superiority. It has all come down to this - a single coin flip, a rowdy crowd, passionate players, deceptive tactics. Who will win? Is war imminent? ![]()
