I remember running around with a pad and a pen, going through all the committees, interviewing those who were involved in discussion. I felt like a reporter on an issue that was important for society. I remember hearing of a crisis and running to the room where the crisis was, writing uncontrollably on my pad all the possible details so that I would not miss anything while writing the article. After an interview I would sit on a computer and start typing frenziedly thinking of a creative title that would fit best for the article and trying to incorporate as much detail as possible. Although it was very tiring, in the end, everything was worth it. Looking through the pages of the completed AMUN newsletter with the articles I wrote, reminiscing the times when I ran around getting interviews and typing up articles, smiling, is probably what truly motivates one to look forward to the next AMUN conference.

Entering my junior year at the Academies this fall, I have had the opportunity to experience Academy Model United Nations twice: first as a delegate and most recently as a staff member. Firstly, as a delegate, I was very impressed by the level of debate and the wide range of committees AMUN had to offer. Contrary to my fears that my experience with AMUN would be of substandard quality because it was a high school-run conference, the class of debate and the professionalism of the staff I experienced as an AMUN delegate was equivalent, and in some cases even superior, to that of the various Ivy League college-run conferences I have since attended. Not only was the conference well-run, but I found myself leaving the weekend with a newfound, thorough knowledge of parliamentary procedure. As for my experience as a staff member for AMUN 2005, I was awed at the amount of work and dedication employed by the secretariat, my fellow staff members, and our advisors Mr. Kramer and Mrs. Buccino. It was through this experience that I understood why I was so impressed by AMUN as a delegate. The conference was run with professionalism because each and every staff member was devoted and hardworking his or herself. With the new Leadership Team, our entire passionate staff, our advisors, I am confident that AMUN 2006 will be better than ever before, and I cannot wait to get underway.
