Q: What is Model United Nations?
A: Model United Nations is the closest that a high school student can come to experience the authentic debate and discussion that takes place in the UN General Assembly. In essence, Model UN is a simulation of the UN.
Q: Who is eligible to participate in the Academy Model United Nations Conference?
A: Any high school student is eligible to participate. Sometimes special exceptions are made to allow exceptional 8th graders to participate.
Q: Is double delegating allowed?
A: No.
Q: Does the conference recognize participants who have excelled in AMUN?
A: Yes. Depending on the committee size, the conference will award distinguished speakers with the following recognitions: honorable mention, outstanding delegate and best delegate.
Q: Is attendance mandatory during the whole conference?
A: The leadership team, chairs, and staff work hard to make sure that both opening/closing events, committee sessions, and social gatherings are enjoyable and memorable. Attendance is mandatory throughout the entire conference. Delegates who are unable to attend certain segments must inform their respective advisor as well as their chairs.
Q: What is the best way to prepare for AMUN?
A: The first step is to read the topic papers written by the chairs and staff of their respective positions. Then, it is advisable to research the delegates countrys position on the problem at hand as well as previous legislature that has been passed regarding the problem or future pending legislation. Each delegate should have a good feel about the represented countrys stance on the topic at hand, as well as the general information about the country. Q: Is AMUN limited to high schools in Bergen County?
A: No! High schools outside Bergen County and outside New Jersey are welcome to participate! Our team will work with you to make sure that your stay is comfortable and arrangements are appropriate.
