Food Security and Sustainable Agriculture
The UNDP has the (quite lofty) goal of ending all forms of hunger and malnutrition by 2030 for all people, especially children and the vulnerable. This topic will involve promoting sustainable agricultural practices, bettering the economic livelihoods of small scale farmers, and allowing equal access to land, other capital, and markets. It will also involve discussing international cooperation to ensure investment in infrastructure/technology to improve agricultural productivity on the global level.
Affordable and Clean Energy
The UNDP has set the goal of achieving universal access to affordable electricity by 2030. Topics debated will include the investment in clean energy sources (e.g. solar energy, wind energy and thermal energy), as well as adopting cost-effective standards for technologies to reduce electricity consumption in the industrial sector (as well as infrastructure in general). Expanding infrastructure and upgrading technology to provide clean energy sources in all developing countries will also be debated, as this is a crucial goal that will both encourage growth and help the environment.
Industry, innovation, and infrastructure
Technological advancements are key factors to finding lasting solutions to the economic and environmental challenges in this world. Topics debated in this potential topic will include providing new jobs in industry and promoting energy efficiency/sustainability of the industrial sector. Topics will also focus on investment in scientific research and innovation to develop new infrastructures, particularly in developing countries.
