AMUN XXVII Secretariat

SECRETARY-GENERAL
Claire Jiang

Welcome delegates to AMUN XXVII!

My name is Claire Jiang, and I’m so excited to welcome you to AMUN this year as the Secretary General of AMUN! Model UN has been the highlight of my high school career, as I’ve brought to light the world’s most pressing issues through insightful debate and discussion. After starting in 6th grade, MUN has launched me into spaces where I can share my voice, no matter the activity. I’ve found ways to create community as the student representative to the Board of Education, at my music school, and even in research labs.  Serving as Secretary General has given me a new perspective on the activity I’ve loved for so long, allowing me to witness the collaboration, creativity, and dedication that make AMUN possible. What I believe distinguishes MUN as an activity above all else is its ability to develop our social skills in a unique way. I have seen myself grow as a student, a friend, a classmate, a public speaker, a leader, and an advocate. I have seen people come together to compromise and negotiate while maintaining empathy and respect for one another. From MUN, I realized that true diplomacy isn't about being the loudest voice in the room. It's about the ability to listen, understand, and lead with intention. I hope you all have a great time at AMUN, and remember, one conference does not define who you are, but it contributes to the portfolio of experiences that make you who you are.

CHARGÉ D'AFFAIRES and Director of Internal Affairs
Anna Ekmekci
Welcome delegates! My name is Anna Ekmekci, and I am honored to serve as Chargé D'Affaires and Director of Internal Affairsfor AMUN XXVII! I started Model UN in my freshman year, and have met a group of amazing people who are incredibly passionate about what they do. What I believe is unique about MUN is the flexibility; there is not one set opinion to defend, not a singular plan to stand by. Instead, it teaches collaboration, critical thinking, and empathy through active debate and diplomacy. I am so grateful to be a part of this community and have grown a lot from the experiences it has offered me. I hope that at AMUN, you can feel this spirit as well and take every opportunity to challenge yourself, meet new people, and step outside your comfort zone. Outside of Model UN, I am a senior in the Academy for Technology and Computer Science and I love going to rock concerts, hanging out with friends, and playing the piano. Good luck, and I look forward to seeing you at AMUN!

DIRECTOR OF INTERNAL AFFAIRS
Katie Cho
Hey guys! My name is Katie Cho, and I am one of the Directors of Internal Affairs for this year's AMUN Conference. I am very excited to work on this conference and I hope you guys all have an amazing time. I am a senior at BCA in the Science Academy. I play volleyball on my high school team currently, and I like to hang out with my friends, bake, and watch tv in my free time. I started my Model UN journey in freshman year and have been doing it ever since. Model UN has been a major building block in my high school journey and has helped me improve on my public speaking, collaboration, and leadership. Throughout my experience in the BCA MUN club, I have had the privilege to work with many bright-minded peers and seek advice from my amazing mentors. Most often, I usually participate in Crisis and Spec committees in MUN! We spent a lot of time preparing over the summer, so hopefully it will all be great for you guys! If you see me or any secretariat in the halls, feel free to ask us questions. Thanks, and can’t wait to see you guys there.

Hello delegates! My name is Mia, and I’m a senior studying computer science. I’ve been involved in MUN since 6th grade, traveling all over, winning awards, and making lifelong friends. MUN has ignited my passion for policy and social justice, a passion that’s taken me everywhere from the halls of university to hearings at the US Senate. Outside of MUN, I love music, travel, film and TV, and trying new restaurants with my friends. I hope you take this experience at AMUN as a stepping stone on the path to using your unique skills to make the world a better place.

DIRECTOR OF OPERATIONS
Kiki Perez Grovas

Hi everyone! My name is Kiki Perez Grovas, and I am a Senior at BCA in AAST, and I am so excited to serve as one of your directors of operations for AMUN! I started doing Model UN as an 8th grader, and my very first conference was JAMUN. After coming to BCA, I joined the club and have traveled to college and high school conferences like YMUN and PMUNC, which have been some of the most memorable moments of high school so far for me. I am specifically a crisis delegate, and apart from having fun with totally wild topics and committees, I have been able to grow my public speaking and teamwork skills which I can say I use in my everyday life now. Outside of Model UN, I like to listen to music and watch TV as well as dedicate time to some extracurricular activities like BCA’s Black and Latin Student Union and our GSA!

CHIEF OF STAFF
Tony Wang

Hey delegates, my name is Tony and I am one of your Chiefs of Staff for AMUN XXVI! I’ve been a part of BCA’s Model UN Team for the past few years, and it’s definitely been one of the most interesting and life-changing experiences I’ve had in high school. I joined MUN to learn more about global politics and public speaking; since then, I’ve had the opportunity to engage in so many incredible conversations, fun speeches, and other awesome opportunities that I’m excited for you all to experience as well! Good luck delegates, and I look forward to seeing you at AMUN!

CHIEF OF STAFF
Raymond Kim

Hey delegates! My name is Raymond Kim, and it is my honor to serve as one of your Chiefs of Staff this year! I am in the Academy for Engineering Design Technology at BCA, but I have still always loved debate. I was on the debate team in middle school, and I grew to love the process of research, writing, and conversation. Going into high school, I joined MUN because I wanted a more unique spin on traditional debate, which MUN happened to offer. Outside of MUN, I enjoy fencing, writing, having insightful discussions with people, and most importantly, sleeping. I hope that this year’s AMUN will give you an opportunity to debate on something you’re passionate about, meet cool people, and have fun. Good luck everyone, and I can’t wait to see you there!

DIRECTOR OF CONFERENCE LOGISTICS
Sachit Tumulturi

Hello, delegates! My name is Sachit Tumuluri, and I’ve been an avid member of the Model UN community since the beginning of my sophomore year. As I embark on one of my final MUN activities in high school, I’m thrilled to serve as one of your Directors of Conference Logistics for AMUN XXVI! I’m currently a senior in the Academy for Business and Finance, and I first got involved in MUN after being a committed debater in middle school. What drew me to MUN was the unscripted, dynamic nature of debate, which challenged me to think quickly and adapt—a transferable skill I’ve grown to value immensely. Beyond MUN, I enjoy playing chess and mountain biking. I can’t wait to meet all of you, and I’m sure we will have a fantastic conference! P.S. The photo above is from one of my favorite MUN conferences, Yale MUN —just look at how much fun I’m having!
