However, suspicions that Donaghy was fixing the very games that he was officiating started to arise, catching the attention of NBA officials and even the FBI. His whole life would take an abrupt halt once he was slammed into a federal prison for 15 years. Not only would this impact him, but the sports world as a whole. As Mark Cuban put it, "As bad as the allegations facing the NBA today are, its also an opportunity to face every allegation that has ever been directed towards the NBA and its officials and preempt them from ever occurring in the future". The effects of the Donaghy scandal may be catastrophic, which is why the National Sports Integrity Committee (NSIC) has been assembled .
