Crisis: Combatting Organized Crime: The Rise of Al CaponeCrisis Director: Javid Mursalov Chairs: Ada Alp & Anna Ekmekci Email: [email protected] , [email protected], [email protected] The year is 1929, and America is engulfed in the prohibition era, with a large surge of crime rising through liquor trafficking. The St. Valentine’s Day Massacre occurred mere hours ago, with seven members of the North Side Gang gunned down brutally on Al Capone’s Syndicate. This shocking act of violence, which also killed innocent bystanders, has galvanized federal law enforcement to finally intensify their crackdown on Capone’s criminal empire. The Syndicate must manipulate public sentiment to regain power while Eliot Ness and his “Untouchables” are gathering evidence to bring him down once and for all. In the meantime, the North Side Gang will have to find their revenge and make alliances as local officials must follow their interests. Delegates must work together to navigate a complex and treacherous web of power, corruption, and public perception in creative methods. Will defenses need to be shored up against law enforcement? Will counterattacks need to be launched? Will negotiations have to be conducted with rivals? Nevertheless, a resolution that restores some illusion of order must be found quickly, and the unintended consequences of the Prohibition addressed. |
